Active Ingredient: Sildenafil

Indication: Viagra 100mg is a medication primarily used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. It contains sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor that helps to increase blood flow to the penis, resulting in improved erectile function.

Mechanism of Action: Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra 100mg, works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which is responsible for the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum of the penis. Inhibition of PDE5 leads to increased levels of cGMP, which relaxes smooth muscles in the blood vessels of the penis, allowing for increased blood flow and thus, improved erectile function.

Dosage and Administration: Viagra 100mg should be taken orally, with a full glass of water, approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour before anticipated sexual activity. The recommended starting dose is 50mg, but this may be increased to 100mg or decreased to 25mg based on individual response and tolerability. Viagra should not be taken more than once per day.

Onset and Duration of Action: Viagra 100mg has a relatively rapid onset of action, with effects typically observed within 30 minutes to 1 hour after administration. The medication remains effective for up to 4 to 6 hours, providing a window of opportunity for sexual activity.

Contraindications: Viagra 100mg is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to sildenafil or any component of the medication. It should not be used concurrently with nitrates or alpha-blockers, as this may potentiate hypotensive effects. Patients with severe hepatic impairment or end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis should also avoid its use.

Adverse Reactions: Common adverse reactions associated with Viagra 100mg include headache, flushing, dyspepsia, nasal congestion, dizziness, and visual disturbances such as blurred vision or changes in color vision. Rare but serious adverse reactions may include priapism (prolonged erection), sudden hearing loss, and myocardial infarction.

Precautions: Patients should be advised to seek immediate medical attention if an erection persists for more than 4 hours, as priapism can result in permanent damage to the penis. Caution is advised in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, as sexual activity may pose a risk. Use of alcohol and grapefruit juice should be limited while taking Viagra, as they may increase the risk of adverse effects.

Interactions: Viagra 100mg may interact with certain medications, including nitrates, alpha-blockers, antihypertensives, antifungals, antibiotics, and HIV protease inhibitors. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications, supplements, and herbal products they are taking before starting Viagra therapy.

Storage: Viagra 100mg should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep the medication out of reach of children.
